On the afternoon of May 5, 2016, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Chairman of State Duma Sergei Naryshkin of Russia.

Xi Jinping first asked Sergei Naryshkin to convey his sincere greetings to President Vladimir Putin. He said that the high-level development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination not only conforms to the common aspiration of both peoples, meets both countries' needs for development and revitalization, but also is in line with the global trend of peace, development, cooperation and win-win results. President Vladimir Putin and I have reached consensus that the central task in China-Russia relations at the next stage is to translate the high-level political relationship into more outcomes in practical cooperation and international cooperation so as to better benefit both countries and peoples. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the signing of Treaty of Good-neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia. It is hoped that both sides can take this as an opportunity to vigorously carry forward the concept of ever-lasting friendship laid out in the treaty so as to provide a more solid social and public opinion foundation for the long-term, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping spoke positively of the outcomes from the 2nd meeting of China-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. He pointed out that representing the will of the people, the legislative body plays a significant role in the development of bilateral relations. It is hoped that both sides can continue to give play to the advantages of smooth communication, abundant talents and wide contact, take full advantage of the regular exchange mechanism and strengthen mutual exchanges and learning in state governance, legislative supervision as well as other areas so as to enrich the connotation of bilateral relations and promote the constant development of bilateral relations.

Sergei Naryshkin conveyed warm regards from President Vladimir Putin to President Xi Jinping. He said that the Russian side considers developing relations with China a priority in its diplomacy. At present, the Russia-China relations are at the highest level in history, which has not only become a model for the development of state-to-state relations, but an important factor to safeguard world peace and stability. The legislative body of Russia is willing to deepen cooperation with the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, and do a good job in hosting the events related to the exchange mechanism in order to make new contributions to advancing the development of Russia-China relations.
