On June 30, 2022 local time, Special Representative of President Xi Jinping and Vice President Wang Qishan attended the inauguration ceremony of new Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and met with him.

Wang Qishan passed on President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to Marcos and conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings and best wishes to President Marcos. Wang Qishan said, the traditional friendship between China and the Philippines has lasted for over a thousand years. Mr. President and your family, having a deep relationship with China, have made great contributions to promoting the China-Philippines friendship. China always prioritizes the Philippines in its neighborhood diplomacy, and looks forward to working with the new Philippine government to carry forward friendship, enhance mutual trust and continue cooperation, so as to usher in a new "golden age" of China-Philippines relations.

Wang Qishan put forward a four-point proposal on developing bilateral relations in the next stage. First, stay committed to the course of China-Philippines ties steered by the heads of state. Second, stay committed to synergizing development strategies, and further foster new growth drivers of pragmatic cooperation between China and the Philippines in the new era. Third, stay committed to properly handling disputes, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the South China Sea. Fourth, stay committed to upholding international justice, and jointly promote peace and development in Asia, fairness and justice in the world, and the well-being of all mankind.

Marcos asked Wang Qishan to convey his heartfelt thanks and sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, and warmly welcomed Vice President Wang Qishan's attendance at the inauguration ceremony in the Philippines. Marcos happily recalled his 1974 visit to China when accompanying his mother, saying that Philippines-China relations date back to ancient times and the two peoples are close to each other. China is the strongest partner of the Philippines, and good neighborliness and friendship are in the fundamental interests of the two peoples. The new Philippine government attaches great importance to the relations with China, and stands ready to engage in Belt and Road cooperation to a greater extent, join hands with China to meet regional challenges, and elevate bilateral relations to new heights.
