On the afternoon of March 30, 2023, Premier of the State Council Li Qiang held talks with delegates of Chinese and foreign business leaders, who were in China for the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023, in Boao, Hainan Province.

After listening to speeches from the delegates of business leaders attending the meeting, Li Qiang expressed appreciation to them for their attention to, support for and positive contributions to China’s development. All types of enterprises, including foreign-funded businesses, have witnessed and contributed to China’s rapid economic growth and long-term social stability. The enterprises and China’s development are drawn to each other and help each other succeed.

Li Qiang highlighted his hope that all business leaders will play a leading role in boosting confidence and improving expectations. It should be noted that despite the current difficulties, the historical trend of economic globalization will not change, the sound fundamentals of China’s economic development will not change, the general direction of reform and opening-up will not change, and the outstanding strengths of China’s enormous market and complete industrial system will not change. In particular, the steady progress of Chinese modernization will bring more business opportunities and development dividends to countries around the world, and inject great certainty into the global economy. China hopes to work with business leaders to maintain their certainties in this uncertain world, boost confidence, anchor expectations and work for greater economic development in China, Asia, and the world at large.

Li Qiang pointed out that the Chinese government will continue to provide an improved environment and better services for the development of various enterprises. China will continue to maintain relative stability in its macro policy, take greater initiative to align high-standard international economic and trade rules, and foster a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and internationalized. China has always attached great importance to attracting and utilizing foreign investment. China will next ease market access further, support all types of open platforms in accelerating the establishment of systems and regulatory models that align with international norms, expand the global-oriented network of high-standard free trade areas, and make solid progress in promoting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Investing in China equals choosing a better future.

Kenichiro Yamanishi, Senior Corporate Advisor of Mitsubishi Electric Corp.; Song Hailiang, Chairman of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd.; William Zarit, Senior Counselor of the Cohen Group; Chey Tae-won, Chairman and CEO of SK Group and Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Leif Johansson, Chairman of AstraZeneca; Paolo Borzatta, Senior Partner of the European House-Ambrosetti; and Carlos Gutierrez, Director of the Boao Forum for Asia, among others delivered speeches at the meeting. They said that from the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China to the “two sessions” this year, the world has seen the Chinese government’s determination to advance its high-level opening-up and scientific and technological innovation with solid efforts, and to build a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized business environment. They have full confidence and expectations for China’s future development. Multinational enterprises are ready to participate thoroughly in promoting China’s high-quality development, continuously increase investment in China, strengthen cooperation with China in such fields as climate response and green transformation, and remain committed to their long-term development in China.

Wu Zhenglong, Qin Gang, and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, among others, were present at the event.
