Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and Chinese Consulate in Laoag donate rice to North Luzon

In order to further deepen the cooperation between China and the Philippines in the fight against the pandemic, promote local economic recovery, and help the people in need, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and the Chinese Consulate in Laoag jointly donated 107 tons of rice to 10 provinces and cities including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Laoag City, Santiago City, and Dagupan City.

On 26 October 2021, Consul & Head of Post Zhou Youbin, entrusted by Ambassador Huang Xilian, joined Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Laoag City Mayor Michael Keon in the turnover ceremony for the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and City Government of Laoag respectively.

Consul Zhou said that many local people and families were affected not only by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic but also by the recent typhoon which have caused more difficulties in their lives and urgently in need of food assistance. The Chinese Embassy and Consulate immediately organized the rice donation upon the request of officials of the relevant provinces and cities. It is hoped that it can help the northern region fight the pandemic, restore its economy, improve people's livelihood, and help local people get through difficulties.

Ilocos Norte Governor Manotoc thanked the Chinese Embassy and Consulate for their long-term care and support for the province. He expressed his gratitude to China for spreading goodwill through their various assistance. He added that they cherish China's deep friendship with the people of Ilocos Norte and looks forward to working with the Chinese Embassy and Consulate in the future to strengthen cooperation and promote the continuous development of Philippines-China friendly relations.

Isabela Governor Rodolfo Albano, Santiago City Mayor Joseph Tan and other officials personally received the rice donation for their localities. The governors and mayors also sent letters to Consul Zhou expressing sincere appreciation for the firm support, sincere care and assistance of the Chinese Embassy and Consulate during this difficult time of fighting the pandemic. The officials of the recipient provinces and cities also noted that they will immediately distribute the rice assistance to thousands of local households in need. They added that with the support of the Chinese Embassy and Consulate and with concerted efforts of all parties, the pandemic will be conquered and that normal life and production will resume as soon as possible, and the traditional friendly relations between the Philippines and China and the northern regions will continue to be enhanced and further consolidated.
