Q: Some Philippine politicians accused China of interfering in its midterm election. Today, a report released by Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Imee Marcos said that the Philippine administration “has launched a communication plan to divert the attention of the people from the arrest and transport of Former President Rodrigo R. Duterte Duterte to the issues in the West Philippine Sea and the alleged disinformation activities of China”. What is the embassy’s comment on this?
A: We noticed the report and relevant views. We would like to repeat that China adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and we have no interest in interfering in elections in the Philippines.
The Chinese Embassy has always been committed to introducing the real China to the people of the Philippines and deepening understanding between the two peoples. We are strongly against the heinous accusation towards China and condemn the obstruction of the normal functioning by the Embassy. We noticed the attempts of some politicians to play the so-called China card to serve their political self interests and boost their election prospects before the midterm election. Such attempts are despicable and doomed to failure.
