Q: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in a recent interview that, “The one-China policy remains in place, we have adhered to the one-China policy strictly and conscientiously since we adopted it and that has not changed. That will not change. We are not endorsing Taiwanese independence. Taiwan is a province of China but the manner in which they will be brought together again is an internal matter.” What is the Embassy’s comment on this?

A: We appreciate President Marcos reiterating the Philippines adherence to the one-China policy, emphasizing Taiwan is a province of China and the Philippines not endorsing “Taiwan independence”.

It is well known there is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The complete reunification of China is where global opinion trends and where the arc of history bends. China will realize reunification, and this is unstoppable.
