Q: According to media reports, a senior official of the Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology claimed that Filipino cybersecurity experts recently thwarted the hacking of government websites and email addresses by hackers from a Chinese company. Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson said that he is not discounting the possibility that the reported alleged attempt to hack the PCG website could be connected to the South China Sea issue. Some Filipino media speculated that the Chinese government was behind these hacking activities. What’s comment of the Chinese Embassy?

A: The Chinese government all along firmly opposes and cracks down on all forms of cyber attack in accordance with law, allows no country or individual to engage in cyber attack and other illegal activities on Chinese soil or using Chinese infrastructure.

Some Filipino officials and media maliciously speculated about and groundlessly accused China of engaging in cyber attacks against the Philippines, even went as far as connecting these cyber attacks with the South China Sea disputes. Such remarks are highly irresponsible.

Cybersecurity is a global challenge that requires collective response from the international community. China calls on all countries to jointly safeguard cybersecurity through dialogue and cooperation.
