Ambassador Ma Keqing visited Yolanda-hit Areas

Ambassador Ma Keqing paid two consecutive visits to the disaster-hit areas of Cebu, Tacloban and Abuyog in the Visayas between November 22 and 24.

   

Ambassador Ma took the very first flight from Manila to Cebu on November 22 to see the two medical teams off to the disaster-hit areas. She delivered

 brief remarks to the medical teams, one sent by the Chinese government and the other by the Red Cross Society of China(RCSC).  "You are friendship

 ambassadors, your efforts will convey the goodwill of the Chinese people to the locals"she said. The medical teams pledged to work hard to successfully 

fulfill the mission, in an effort to contribute to the traditional friendship between the Chinese and Philippine people.

 

During the meetings with Govenor Hilario "Junjun" Davide III and Mayor Michael "Mike" Lopez Rama of Cebu, Ambassador Ma briefed both officials on China's 

assistance to the Philippines in the relief efforts against Yolanda. Cooperation on relief work at local level.    

 

Ambassador Ma met with the local Chinese community and extended her solicitudes.

 

On Nov. 24, the Ambassador inspected Tacloban City from the air with Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. She then visited the camp of RCSC medical team. 

 

After three days of non-stop navigation, the Peace Ark Hospital Ship arrived in Leyte late Nov.24 ahead of schedule. The Ambassador joined the Commander 

of Peace Ark in meeting with Congressman  Romualdez and mayor of Tacloban City. Issues related to medical relief work of the hospital ship were discussed. 

Without any rest, the medical crew members transferred some severely injured victims from Tacloban City to the ship for further treatment. The relatives of the 

patients said with emotion that it was their honour to be the first batch of patients stepping on the hospital ship and they felt deeply grateful to the help from China.
