On April 23, 2016, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President Bounnhang Vorachith of Laos met at the Presidential Palace in Vientiane with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Bounnhang Vorachith asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to General Secretary and President Xi Jinping. Bounnhang Vorachith expressed that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have provided strong support and assistance to Laos' national development over the years, not only promoting the economic and social development of Laos, but also helping it cultivate professionals in various fields and improve the people's living standards, towards which the party and government of Laos harbor sincere gratitude. Laos is willing to, in the spirit of good neighbors, good friends, good comrades and good partners, maintain high-level exchanges with China, expand economic and trade and people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation, and strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to promote bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation for new progress.

Wang Yi conveyed General Secretary and President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Bounnhang Vorachith. Wang Yi expressed that both countries share similar political systems, ideals and belief, and enjoy profound strategic mutual trust. China appreciates Laos' consistent support on issues concerning China's core interests. China will also firmly support Laos to promote the undertakings of renovation and opening up as well as explore a development path that fits in well with its own national conditions. China is willing to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Laos diplomatic relations as an opportunity to propel bilateral relations to a new height. China is willing to formulate the scheme of jointly building the "Belt and Road" with Laos, help Laos to improve infrastructure and accelerate the construction of China-Laos railway to realize connectivity. China also stands ready to conduct cooperation in production capacity with Laos, and help Laos to realize industrialization and strengthen its capacity of independent development.
