Wang Yi Meets with National Security Advisor to Afghan President Mohammad Hanif Atmar

On April 19, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with National Security Advisor to Afghan President Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

Wang Yi expressed that Afghanistan is an important neighboring country of China. The Chinese side pays high attention to developing the good-neighborly and friendly cooperative relations with Afghanistan, and firmly supports the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan. China stands ready to make joint efforts with Afghanistan to maintain high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as economy and trade as well as security, so as to push forward the development of China-Afghanistan strategic cooperative partnership.

Mohammad Hanif Atmar said that the Afghan side appreciates and thanks China for playing an important and long-term role in the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan, and is willing to actively participate in China's construction of the Belt and Road. Afghanistan firmly supports the Chinese side in fighting against the "East Turkistan Islamic Movement" terrorist forces in order to jointly safeguard the development and security interests of the two countries.
