On November 6 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with Secretary of State John Kerry of the US at request.
Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to the US this September, creating important opportunities for the development of bilateral relations. China and the US should enhance coordination, focus on implementing the series of important consensus reached by leaders of both countries and thus ensure the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations, and we hope this process will not be disrupted unnecessarily. Wang Yi said that the activities of US warships in South China Sea are detrimental to China-US mutual trust and have provoked regional tension, about which China is seriously concerned. The US should return onto the right path of properly managing and controlling differences through dialogues and consultations as soon as possible.
Both sides also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue, the Syrian issue and the like. John Kerry spoke highly of China's positive role in the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, saying that the US wishes to work with China and coordinate with all parties concerned to make unremitting efforts in implementing the comprehensive agreement including the modification of the Arak heavy water reactor.
Wang Yi said that the implementation of the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue is in line with the common interests of the international community, and China is willing to keep close coordination with all parties concerned and play its due role in this respect.
On the Syrian issue, Wang Yi spoke positively of the nine-point agreement reached lately in the enlarged ministerial meeting in Vienna. He stressed that under the current circumstances, to accelerate the political settlement process of the Syrian issue has been of urgency. China holds that efforts of all parties concerned should be pooled together in combating terrorism; second is to consolidate the partial ceasefire and to realize the stop of overall military action in a gradual manner; third is to resume the political reconstruction process with the core issue being an inclusive dialogue on national reconciliation at an early date; fourth is to actively promote humanitarian aid and economic reconstruction. China will actively participate in the political settlement process of the Syrian issue.
Both sides agreed to keep close communication on relevant issues.
