On January 5, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met the press with visiting Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond of the UK after their talks in Beijing. On the question on China's role in the Syrian issue, Wang Yi said that the political settlement is the only right way and completely conforms to the fundamental and long-term interests of the Syrian people, and we will make persistent efforts toward this direction. The world lacks the determination and actions to unswervingly promote the political settlement instead of the resources and capability to resort to forces. Difficult as the way to political settlement might be, it is an efficient way to resolve the issue fundamentally. China will continue to play a constructive role in its own way to promote the political settlement of the Syrian issue.
