On April 23, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Provincial Party Secretary and Governor Khamkhanh Chamthavisouk of Luang Prabang Province of Laos in Luang Prabang Province.

Wang Yi expressed that, China and Laos are a community of common destiny. The two countries are strategic partners and the two peoples are brothers and sisters. China has achieved some development in these years, and as a good neighbor, it hopes that Laos will also develop more quickly. The China-Laos railway will run through Luang Prabang Province. It is hoped that the railway could be constructed as soon as possible to become a railway bringing welfare and development. China supports Chinese enterprises to invest and develop business in Luang Prabang Province and work together with local people to jointly construct Laos' northern area adjacent to China. China also encourages more Chinese tourists to travel to Luang Prabang Province and enhance understanding and friendship with local people.

Khamkhanh Chamthavisouk expressed that Luang Prabang Province has engaged in friendly exchanges with many Chinese provinces and cities, yielding fruitful results in practical cooperation. Luang Prabang Province is willing to seize the opportunity of China's development to expand cooperation with China in various fields such as investment, trade and tourism, so as to accelerate its economic and social development.

On the same day, Wang Yi also met with representatives of Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese in Luang Prabang Province.
