On April 28, 2016, at the press conference of the 5th Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that under the new situation, maintenance of security should also keep pace with the times.

Wang Yi expressed that dialogue, cooperation and development are important concepts that should be followed when exploring a new way of maintaining security that accords with Asia's features and suits Asia's needs. Promoting security through dialogue is the only correct choice, promoting security through cooperation is a practical and effective approach, and promoting security through development is a secure and sustainable guarantee.

Wang Yi stressed that in today's meeting, I am also deeply impressed by three points.

First, all sides appreciate that China has injected new vitality and added new energy to the CICA course, and support China in making more contributions to the development of the CICA during its tenure as presidency.

Second, all sides agree that the CICA should play a more significant role in maintaining security and stability in the region, boost impetus of the CICA on the basis of deeply building measures of confidence, and actively discuss on building a regional security framework fitting in with Asia's needs.

Third, all sides value the importance of the development to security. Almost all member states expressed their support and willingness to participate in the Belt and Road initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, believing that joint construction of the Belt and Road can not only bring common development and prosperity, but also contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region.
