As a household name in China, Ulan Muqir, the country’s Inner Mongolian performing arts troupe, hit Manila on its visit to the Philippines, with captivating ethnic folk shows premiered at the Chinese Cultural Courier @ the Philippines on Friday evening of September 20.

The troupe has made its Manila debut so remarkably. From performing onstage to doing flash mobs at the shopping malls, our brilliant artists have reached out to many Filipinos of all ages, who are not only exposed to various aspects of grassland culture pronounced in dancing, singing and music, etc., but also enable to glimpse the latest development of ethnic minorities in China today.

Born and bred on north China’s vast expanse of prairies, the Ulan Muqir, which means “red bud” in the Mongolian language, is a collective name for those traveling troupes organized by local authorities in the autonomous region. Since its inception in 1957, this grass-roots but versatile troupe has been dedicated to entertaining herders and farmers who reside in far-flung areas, as an outreach effort of public cultural services to enrich their lives.
